I started my PhD in Computer Science in February 2005. My supervisors are Henry Detmold , Katrina Falkner and Dave Munro. My research involves annotation for the semantic web:
One of the foundations of the Semantic Web is the annotation of content with semantic meta-data describing that content. The purpose of this annotation is to make the content amenable to automatic processing and hence build a Web that is accessible to computations as well as to human users.
For static content, annotation is relatively straightforward since it is feasible to add meta-data manually to extant content. On the other hand, where content is dynamically generated at the time it is requested, an a posteriori annotation process is clearly inadequate. Instead, meta-data must be produced at the same time as content is output.
The project will investigate the dynamic generation of meta-data by a reflective computation operating within the content generation of a Web program. Using meta-data from the underlying program and other input, the aim is to make meta-data generation automatic, and the development process for the reflective computations as straight-forward as possible.
