Duties & Responsibilites

The wardens form an organisation called the "Emergency Control Organisation" which is responsible for taking control of the building in the event of an emergency. Emergencies include:

This document does not seek to fully specify the responsibilities, but acts as a rough guide. Wardens are supposed to be trained! Some more detail can be found on the links at the end of this page.

The first thing which must be noted is that wardens are responsible for the preservation of life as their number one priority. The first life they need consider is their own - there should be no heroic wardens. Wardens are not supposed to be fire-persons or bomb disposal experts.

Fire

In the event of a fire, the chief warden will instigate an evacuation of the affected parts of the building. In the case of the Plaza building, this is virtually the entire building. Wardens should evacuate everyone in their response area and stand by their WIP phone to communicate with the chief warden. The details of how to evacuate are part of the response plan drawn up by the ECO. Please remember that if you are unsure if your area has been fully evacuated, tell the chief warden.

Bomb Threat

As per the training courses: perform a sweep of your area, looking for suspicious objects. Communicate with the chief warden. Do not even consider touching suspicious objects.

Flood/Earthquake

As per fire.

Civil Disorder

At the time of writing, no fixed plan has been devised by the ECO. Man WIP phones and await instructions.
