CS Learning Centre
If you are a first-year student, the CS Learning centre is for you!
The centre can:
- Explain the principles of computer science;
- Help you find bugs in your programs;
- Answer questions about course material;
- Help you to study more effectively.
If you are a second or later-year student, you should go to the
CS Consulting Centre.
What can the Learning Centre offer?
The Learning Centre has a number of facilities that you can use:
- A library of Java and general computer science textbooks;
- Experienced third-year and postgraduate students are available to answer
any questions you may have;
- Seminars on advanced computer science topics are presented by staff or students.
The CSLC also provides an alternative work area, equipped with laptop
computers, a comfortable group-work area, and desks for studying.
You can come and go at any time during
opening hours
and use the facilities — no appointment is needed.
Where is the CS Learning centre?
The CSLC is in room 1064 of the Plaza building, directly opposite
the first year programming labs.
When is it open?
The CSLC is open from 9am until 5pm weekdays during semester and during
the periods prior to examinations.

The Learning Centre library
You are welcome to borrow from the Learning Centre's library of
first-year programming and computer science textbooks.
You can borrow from the centre during tutoring hours —
just leave your student number with the tutor and you can borrow a
textbook for up to a week.
Other Facilities
The Learning Centre has desks available for quiet study, group-work areas
with access to whiteboards, and laptop computers that provide access
to the web, student servers, and course materials.

Want to work in the Learning Centre?
Working in the learning centre is a great way to test your knowledge,
gain experience in working with other people,
and help students who are just beggining their studies.
We are looking for students who are in third-year or above and
have experience in Java programming.
