Who are we?
Founded in 1964
we are a group of men, women, boys and girls (many from a German
background), interested in upholding the German Culture,
getting out, exercising and having fun in the process! The dances we
perform mostly originate in Middle and Northern Germany and reflect many
of the traditions of social life: courtship, work,
games and other traditional German pastimes
are all represented with a variety of dance styles.
We have also toured throughout
Germany to learn new dances and make new contacts, and are a recognised
group of performers at many well-known festivals and events. Practice
is fun and good
exercise and we hold regular social events for our group members whose
ages have ranged from as young as 4 years and upwards (no telling where to)!
As a group there is no requirement to
speak or understand the German language, though several of our members
know it natively or have studied it throughout their life.

When do we meet?
Usually we practice once each week on Sundays, with the
first Sunday of the month at the German Club (in the CBD) and
the other three Sundays at the Donauschwaben Club (in Woodville).
The group practices for two
hours, covering everything from basic step practice, learning new
dances and brushing up on older ones. On occasions we hold an extra
practice during the week when preparing for our larger performances
(such as the Schuzenfest or a Folk Festival).
Whilst many of our members actively meet throughout the week to pursue
other past-times, the group itself holds regular social events.
Our group's christmas party and annual dinner are not the only highlights
of our year, as we regularly organise other gatherings/dinners or
other outings our members might be interested in.
