Research Interests

The School of Computer Science has wide-ranging research interests. Here we showcase the research interests of our individual staff members. More information can be found on the home page of each staff member.

Dr Brad Alexander

Mr Alexander's (home page) research interests include

  • Implementations of parallel functional languages;
  • Transformational programming, in particular Bird-Meertens Formalism;
  • Program optimisation and partial evaluation;
  • Formal specification of languages and processes.

Professor Mike Brooks

Professor Brooks (home page) is Program Leader of the Image Analysis Program within the Cooperative Research Centre for Sensor Signal and Information Processing, and Leader of the Adelaide University Computer Vision Lab.

Professor Brooks' research interests include

  • Recovery of 3D shape and depth from visual imagery: stereo vision; motion vision; shape from shading; metrology; self-calibration.
  • Statistical parameter estimation.
  • Video synchronisation, video mining.
  • Applications in vision: surveillance, intruder detection, depth and volume estimation.
  • Artificial intelligence: evolutionary computation; philosophy of mind; cognition.

Dr Fred Brown

Dr Brown's (home page) research interests include Genome Indexing, Persistent Systems, Garbage Collection Algorithms and Hierarchical File Systems.

Dr Paul Coddington

Dr Coddington (home page) leads the Distributed and High Performance Computing group, working on high-performance distributed and parallel computing technologies and applications. Dr Coddington's research interests are in parallel and distributed computing, cluster computing, computational science, on-line data archives, distributed spatial information systems, and other applications of high-performance computing.

Dr Henry Detmold

Dr Detmold (home page) is a member of the Jacaranda Research Group. Dr Detmold's research interests include distributed object systems, object-based distributed programming languages, compliant architectures and persistence.

Dr Anthony Dick

Dr Dick (home page) is a member of the Vision Research Group. Dr Dick's research interests include 3D reconstruction, video surveillance and visual interpretation using Bayesian techniques.

Dr Katrina Falkner

Dr Falkner (home page) is a member of the Jacaranda Research Group. Dr Falkner's research interests include Distributed Object Systems, Shared Memory Systems, Persistence and Compliant Architectures.

Dr David Hemer

Dr Hemer (home page) is a member of the Formal Modelling and Verification Group. Dr Hemer's research interests include formal aspects of component based software engineering, formal verification, interactive theorem proving and refinement calculus.

Dr Cruz Izu

Dr Izu's (home page) research interests are parallel architectures, design and evaluation of interconnection networks for message passing and shared memory multi-computers, mobile and real-time networks.

Dr Li Jiang

Dr Jiang's (home page) research interests include Requirements Engineering, Intelligent Support for Software Engineering, Component Engineering For Safety Critical Systems, Mobile Agent and Intelligent Multi-Agent Systems, Bioinformatics for Health Care and Information Systems.

Dr Charles Lakos

Dr Lakos' (home page) research interests include Object Petri Nets, Object-orientation, Object-oriented analysis and design, Concurrency and Networking.

Mr Kevin Maciunas

Mr Maciunas (home page) is a member of the Distributed High Performance Computing Group. Mr Maciunas' research interests include concurrent and distributed systems, specifically mechanisms for software re-use and communication mechanisms and computing networks.

Professor Zbigniew Michalewicz

Professor Michalewicz's (home page) research interests include

Dr David Munro

Dr Munro (home page) is leader of the Jacaranda Research Group. Dr Munro's research interests are in distributed and persistent object language systems and compliant software architectures, specialising in the design and memory management of object stores.

Dr Cheryl Pope

Dr Pope (home page) is a collaborative member of the Internet Technology Research Centre which is a partner in the Co-operative Research Centre for Smart Internet Technology. Dr Pope's research interests are in QoS support for wide area networks, real-time scheduling theory, real-time communication in WANs especially multi-media, fault-tolerance for real-time systems and Internet protocols especially support for mobile ad-hoc networks.

Professor Hong Shen

Professor Shen's (home page) research interests include parallel and distributed computing, algorithms, high performance networks, data mining and multimedia systems.

Dr Michael Sheng

Dr Sheng's (home page) research interests include Web services, Business process integration, Service-oriented computing, Data integration, Pervasive computing and Sensor networks.

Dr Anton van den Hengel

Dr van den Hengel (home page) is a member for the Vision Research Group. Dr van den Hengel's research interests include Parameter Camera calibration, space carving and XML image data description.

Dr Andrew Wendelborn

Dr Wendelborn (home page) is a member of the Distributed and High Performance Computing Group and leader of the Parallel Functional Programming Project. Dr Wendelborn's research interests include Distributed high performance computing, Parallel (functional) programming, Data flow computation and Programming language design.
